Moms turning 80!

Last month, the Swain family ventured down to Australia to celebrate my mother-in-law, “Mum’s,” 80th birthday. It took a year to coordinate the family’s schedules so we could all be present in the “Land Down Under” for her big day. Last year my own mother, “Mom,” turned 80. It was also a year of planning to get her big brood in one place. In each case, both mothers exclaimed,” This is the Best Day of My Life!” And they are still saying those words.

When you start with the idea, the thought of trying to get family in one place at one time, seems impossible. There are logistic issues, personality issues, financial issues, health issues..you name it! What is interesting, though, if you just start, the process becomes the magic! Schedules start to open up, relationship problems begin to heal, transportation costs get covered and even the ones who you are sure cannot make it because of their health, show up.
The funny thing is that we think we are doing it for our Moms, but in each case, everyone walks away forever blessed from the experience. So, celebrating Moms as a family is really opening a door to joy, healing, peace and love that people in the family need.

Whether your mom is here or in heaven, I hope she brings you together as a family! You may say,” This is the Best Day of My Life!”
